Welcome to Year 5
Welcome back to school.
It is so lovely to see you all after such a long break.
Here are some things that you might like to know about the way that we do things here at school and in Year 5.
We have PE on Thursdays. Every Thursday we would like you to come to school in your PE kit so that you are ready for the lesson. You are then allowed to stay in your kit for the rest of the day. (So no need to bring extra clothes to change into) Remember to dress for the weather. Some days you may need a long sleeved top to wear over your t-shirt and you may prefer a pair of jogging bottoms or leggings instead of shorts. Trainers are great to wear on your feet.
You will be given a new spelling list each Friday, it will look very similar to this:
We would like you to use this Look, Cover, Write, Check sheet to practise your spellings. Keep this sheet at home and practise your spellings every day.
You will be tested on your spellings every Friday.
Homework is slightly different this year. We are using a new system called Google classrooms. Your homework will be set online in the Google classroom for you to access. We would like you to complete the homework electronically and then 'turn it in' (Send it back to me so that I can mark it)
Homework will be set on a Friday and completed and 'Turned in' by the following Friday at the latest. There will be paper copies of the homework available for those who are unable to access Google classrooms.
Don't worry, this is a new system for us all and so we will be doing lots of practise in the classroom, to show you how it works. You will be experts in no time!
This year we will be learning lots of new fun topics. We will be starting with the Mighty Monarchs - The Tudors, then moving on to study the Victorians, Locks and Quays, North and South America, World of Wonders focusing on mountains and deserts and finally Early Islamic Civilisation.
We will also be investigating some great units in science starting with Earth and Space then moving on to Forces, Properties and changes of materials, Living things and their habitats, growing up and growing old and becoming super scientists.
We have a very busy year ahead but we will have lots of fun along the way!
