Mixed Up Fairy Tales!

Week 1 and 2

 

We have been reading this fantastic book! You can make many different mixed up tales by lifting different flaps!  We really did laugh at some of the combinations!

 

 

 

We are now going to use this book to help us to plan and write our own mixed up fairy tale!

 

We experimented with different combinations.

 

We finally decided on the last one as the basis for our mixed up fairy tale.

 

 

After that, we looked at how to plan a story using pictures.  This is a popular teaching strategy called 'Talk for Writing.'  The children draw their story out using pictures and then orally rehearse their own story map.

 

Then when the children come to write their story they have the structure in their long term memory, this means they can focus on adding all the extras that make writing wonderful.  Adjectives, powerful verbs, expanded noun phrases, alliteration, personification etc.
