World War II Theme Day

12th February 2019

What a fantastic day!  Thank you to all the children for really getting into the spirit of the day and dressing up.  I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day preparing the evacuees for their new homes.

Picture 1
During the day, the children listened to Chamberlain's declaration of war, made peg aeroplanes, tried their hand at rag rug making, took part in an air raid, made carrot cookies, sang wartime songs, hosed down a fire, washed and cleaned clothes, dug for victory, played typical 1940's games, received evacuation letters from parents, wrote postcards home, ate spam and gathered together to listen to Churchill announce Germany's unconditional surrender!  Phew! It was a jam packed day.

Adopt-A-Player Project

We were lucky enough to be chosen to take part in the Adopt-a-player project run by the Halle orchestra.  Over the course of a month, Andy Maher (French horn) and Rhiannon (violin) worked with the children to create a piece of music based on Wagner's The Mastersingers.

The project culminated in a concert at Moorside High School on the 26th November.  They were superstars!

I could not be more proud of the children!  frown

heart When Love is the way heart

During RE week, each class focused on the poem read out by Bishop Michael Curry at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.  I am so proud of the iMovies that Year 6 made using the poem as inspiration.  Very moving work! heart

Harvest Festival in Church 05.10.18

The children performed brilliantly in church.  I think our final song was a hit with reception!

Crucial Crew

On Wednesday 3rd October, we visited Crucial Crew at Rochdale's football ground.  The children took part in discussions with the police, transport police, Rochdale Housing and Link4life.

The view was amazing!

Titanic

Our first topic will be all about the Titanic.  In topic, we will be finding out the names of some of the crew members and passengers.  We will also be exploring some of the many human errors that contributed to such a high loss of life in the early hours of 15th April 1912.    Through our English work, we will be exploring lots of different genres and writing our own newspaper articles, letters from the ship and explanation texts.

The Children used iMovie to create trailers for a new blockbuster film about the Titanic.
