smiley Welcome to Year 1! frown

Welcome children, parents and carers to our Year 1 class page. In Year 1 we learn a variety of fascinating and fun topics these are....

Superhero Me Topic: Superhero Day!

Our Mini Autumn Topic

Man on the Moon Topic!

We were extremely excited to begin our Man on the Moon topic. We begun our topic by talking about what we already knew about Space, we then used the IPads and a range of non-fiction books to find out more information. We found out lots of interesting facts about Space throughout the topic, we also learnt about the life of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon.

We also worked extremely hard at home with our topic learning, Miss Fisher was incredibly proud of our home learning challenges! frown

Polar Explorers Topic! frown

We will be starting our very new and exciting Polar Explorers topic on Tuesday 5th January. We will begin our topic by learning about a lost, little penguin from the story 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. The children will take part in lots of writing opportunities based on this story over the next two weeks and will write their own version of the story as part of our BIG WRITE.

Please take a look at both the home learning challenge document and the topic plan to see how you can support your child with their learning at home.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss S.Fisher smiley

Lost and Found Themed Day!

Today we arrived in school to find some very mysterious-looking penguin footprints, sardines and snowflakes... a trail left from a penguin, a penguin missing from Antarctica!

In English we read the story 'Lost and Found' all about the missing penguin from Antarctica, we discussed how the penguin felt at the beginning of the story when he was all alone and lost. We came up with some amazing WOW words to describe how he might have felt such as 'terrified, lonely, worried, anxious and frightened.'

We then worked together to describe what the penguin looked like and came up with some super sentences such as ' The penguin has a fluffy, white and black coat of fur and a sharp, pointy beak.'

In the afternoon we watched the Lost and Found animation and decided to design our own missing penguin posters to help find him, we also made our own mini penguins for our class display!

We are very excited to explore our classroom igloo on Thursday, inside we will be able to read lots of interesting books about the Polar Regions! frown
