Welcome children, parents and carers to our Year 4 class page. In Year 4 we learn a variety of fun and interesting topics these are 3...2...1...Blast Off!, Ole, Vikings, Wild Weather and The Curse of the Mummy.

On Thursdays we are very lucky to be taught violins by Salford Music Service who come into school. We need to try to remember our violins every week.

We have lots of teachers and support staff who work with us everyday, they are Miss Unwin, Mrs Watson, Mrs Gardner and Mrs Jones.

Spring 2- North America (Wild Weather)

WORLD BOOK DAY 2016

In March, our class were lucky enough to visit The National Media Museum in Bradford. We explored the museum, watched a fascinating documentary on habitats in the wild and finally had a Lights, Cameras and Action talk by one of the guides. We loved this learning experience! See some pictures below.
Take a look below at our beautiful North American artwork display. It took us four weeks to complete. Each week we researched and learnt about a different North American artist, then we attempted to recreate their work.

To start our amazing new topic, we all completed an archaeological dig to find some hidden Egyptian treasure. We worked in small groups to carefully unearth the artefacts using a delicate brush. Next we had a discussion about what they could be.

One child questioned, "What is the name of the creature on the canopic jar?" Another child asked, "What is a scarab beetle?"

We will research the answer to these questions and more in subsequent lessons.

Making Egyptian Wind Chimes

Throughout the final week of Summer 1, we have been creating our Egyptian canopic jars. Firstly, we painted our covered pringles tube in metallic golden colours. Then, we used paper mache on a balloon to create the shape of the head which we also painted. Once they were dry, we used pens to create patterns and hieroglyphics onto the jar. Finally, we drew on the faces. Here are some pictures below.

Summer 2- Spells, smells, Lotions and Potions

In Literacy, we have been looking at the poem, "Witches' Spell" from the play Macbeth (written by William Shakespeare). Firstly we discussed its features, then we got into small groups to create a performance of the play. Next we completed evaluations to assess what we liked and what could be improved with our performances. Finally, we made the necessary changes. Above are some pictures to show our preparation.

As part of an enterprise module, we worked in teams to design and create a t-shirt for Manchester United's mascot 'Fred the Red' in partnership with The Swinton High School. Here are a selection of advertisements that some of the children made. Which t-shirt would you buy?
