BARTON AIRPORT TRIP!

Wow! What an incredible day it's been. To celebrate the end of our 'Up, Up and Away!' topic we visited Barton Airport today to find out more about flight and how an airport is managed. Our wonderful guides Steve and Jean took us around the airport to meet lots of cool people. We met the air traffic controllers, engineers, some pilots and the fire and rescue team. We visited different hangers and looked at and discussed a range of aircrafts. We were even allowed to sit in an aeroplane and control parts of the wings and tails. What an incredible and interesting day!

Pirate Johnson made an entrance! We had the biggest shock of our lives when a real-life pirate from Barbados barged into our classroom in search of her precious treasure. She wasn't happy at all! She called us names, made some of us walk the plank and even tried to kidnap one of the class. Mrs Green looked petrified! Once Pirate Johnson had calmed down and found her treasure, she told us all about her life at sea.

Our trip to The Edge! As part of our India topic, we visited The Edge Restaurant on Chorley Road. We had a delicious feast of vegetable samosas, popadoms, chutneys and yoghurt. Following this we enjoyed a trio of traditional Indian curries. A trip to a fancy restaurant is never quite complete without a generous ice-cream Sunday for dessert! We were STUFFED!

We've been using sweets and pictures to help us learn how to divide with remainders. We shared worms and mice amongst nocturnal animals. Who said maths can't be fun?

Today Paul Mackrill (Freya's dad) and his colleague Matthew came to school to tell us all about their job as firemen. We learnt about how fires are fought and compared this to how the Great Fire was fought in 1666.

As part of our 'London's Burning' topic, year two baked their own tasty bread, following a set of instruction from the olden days.

Hello parents, carers and children!

Welcome to the Year 2 new class page 2016-2017.

So far Year 2 have had a great time taking part in Roald Dahl activities and in our school's Dahlicious Dress Up Day!

Our trip to The Manchester Jewish Museum was really interesting too.

At the moment we're enjoying our 'Great Fire of London' topic and are looking forward to the Fire Brigade coming to school in October.

What a great day we all had at The Manchester Jewish Museum!
