Autumn 2 Victorian Salford

The Victorians

Guided Reading

This half term we will be reading the book Holes by Louis Sachar. It is a book full of twists and turns and flashbacks where we find out extra information to help us piece things together.

We performed our Jazz music composition, we hope you like it.

Today was Children in Need and we enjoyed dressing up as popstars and in our Pudsey costumes. Can you tell which popstars we are? Can you spot Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Charlie from Busted, Harry Styles, George Ezra, or Iron Maiden,?

In ICT we have been using the Ipads to create our own games using the Scratch program.

In Science we have been learning about Forces. This week we were learning about Air resistance and we made helicopters. We timed them and tested them, using our knowledge of air resistance to see if we could make them fall faster and slower.

Ellie and Ruby decided to continue their experiments, testing air resistance in the playground. Well done girls!

Then we had our first snow of the winter! We had great fun playing in the playground.

We enjoyed dressing up in our Christmas jumpers for the first Christmas Jumper Day of the festivities.

Our POSADA characters have been having fun with you at home. Here are Ophelia and Charlie's entries into the book. It certainly sounds like they have been very busy!

Today we went to visit Lark Hill Place as part of our Victorian Topic in History. We were able to look at lots of different Victorian artefacts.

For each object we described what it looked like, what it felt like and what it was made from. We thought about who might have used it, where they might have used it and what it was for. We had some great suggestions and were quite surprised when we found out what some of them really were and what they were used for.

After our workshop with the artefacts we then went down to visit the Victorian street. We had a great time and learnt lots of interesting facts that will help us with our Victorian Topic.

In our DT lessons we looked at the work of the Victorian artist William Morris. We created our own designs inspired by his work and we sewed them to make cushions.

And here are our finished cushions, we are very proud of our efforts.

We had fun running around the school to our favourite Christmas music whilst taking part in this year's Santa Dash.

And Finally........ We ended the autumn term with our Class Christmas party where we were joined by some very special visitors......

Merry Christmas to you all. Have a wonderful time and stay safe and healthy.
